Sunday Sneak
Although I really didn't want to, I got out of bed early on a Sunday morning and headed down to Cherry Creek for the 30th annual Cherry Creek Sneak. In the past I did this race every year with family and friends but I hadn't done it since 2007. This year no one signed up to go with me so I was all by myself (with about 15,000 other runners) but that was fine. I made a great playlist (Lady Gaga every other song gets me rockin') and hit the road (hubby did drive me down there so I didn't have to try to find a place to park, thanks sweetie!). I felt really good and, although I still can't jog the whole way, I think I made pretty good time. I did manage to run across the finish line. I'll report in when I get the official time. I must say the course is a lot less hill-y than the Greenwood Village one from the Cookie run so that made me a very happy girl. Plus I remembered to get some moleskin for the blister and that seemed to help.

Like a turtle
Finally did my first 5K in over a year. It wasn't pretty but I finished. All this work on the treadmill and I thought I'd be able to run more of it, at least a slow jog, but no. Jogged a brief bit in the beginning, my heart rate shot up to 175 so I had to back to down to a race/walk pace for pretty much the rest for an average pace of 13:41. I'm going to have to figure out a way to get outside more for runs - treadmill just isn't cutting it.

Wednesday 10/26 report
Still on week 1, workout 2 from the C25K treadmill version
This time I thought I'd start a little slower so on the first 1 min run I just did 4.5. Then the next 3 I did 5.0, then back to 4.5 for the 15:00 to 16:00 then three more 5.0s. Felt pretty good except some heel pain in my right heel (which I compensated for by staying mostly on my toes). Made it 1.85 miles this time so an improvement! My playlist might have helped:
Yesterday (Tues) I just did the elliptical and I think that might be what I do tomorrow (Thurs). Then Friday will be day 3 of the plan (which is the same as the first two plan days).

Couch to 5K plan
Okay, so I don't think it's truly a couch to 5K since I am a little more active than your typical couch potato but I figured what the heck. I really need to work on my speed and being able to sustain a "run" or "jog" for more than a few minutes. Today (Monday, Oct 24) I started on Week 1 of THIS (click here) program for the treadmill. It's actually less time than I have been spending on the treadmill so that was kind of a plus. Unfortunately, the treadmill I picked to use today was kind of rickety and didn't make running on it very fun.
So here was the plan:
The first 1 minute "run" I popped it up to 5.0 and after about 30 seconds the piece of paper with my time blew off the treadmill (probably from my huffing and puffing) so I had to hop off and pick it up. Plus my heart rate really got up there so for the next 3 "run" sections I only went up to 4.0. Then I did 5.0 (after securing my paper) for the 15:00-16:00 then back to 4.0 for the next 2 and 4.1 for the last 22:30-23:30.
Overall total distance in this 30:02 time was 1.75. Seriously? Oh well, guess I have a lot of room for improvement since I'll be trying to do the full 3.1 miles in this same time at some point.
